Can You Really Feel Your Chakras?
Can You Really Feel Your Chakras?
Have you ever wondered if you can feel your chakras? Any energy practitioner would tell you that absolutely, you can feel the chakras, but not all of us are attuned to our energetic selves and we have to learn to feel our chakras. The more chakra work you do, the better your sense of how energy flows through your body and where you may have blockages or stagnant energies.
Here are some tips to start practicing feeling your energy. But first, don’t allow yourself to get frustrated – it does take a while to attune yourself to energy – instead, treat it like a curiosity, something really really interesting, and in this way you’ll maintain an openness to the process because if you doubt that you can feel your energy, this can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The point of this is to become familiar with how your chakras normally feel, so that you can monitor changes. It can be that certain chakras are severely blocked and that feels ‘normal’ to you – but as you do chakra work you’ll clear these blockages, and the feeling will change. Taking note of the changes helps you guide your chakra clearing practice because chakras can either be blocked (stagnant energy) or too open (rushing energy), and neither is beneficial.
Start by taking a few very deep breaths to relax. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Bring your hand over your root chakra, 8 inches away from it (above if you’re lying down, in front if you’re standing). Close your eyes. Slowly move your hand toward the chakra until you feel some heat. You may feel a tingling sensation, or a buzzing. You may feel nothing and that’s okay. In time you’ll become more familiar with the ‘heat’ emanating from your chakras. While it’s true that some of the heat you feel is from your physical body, the ‘heat’ over the chakras is different than the heat produced by the body in areas not corresponding to the chakras
Now, on the inhale, move your hand slowly up along the chakras, and visualize yourself drawing the breath through them. Imagine your breath moving up through the chakras as if pulled by an invisible string attached to your hand. On the exhale, move your hand slowly down to the root chakra. Do this two or three more times. When you’re ready, start to notice that as you ‘pull’ the breath through the chakras, you may be encountering resistance (like somebody closed a window so you can’t feel the breeze anymore). Any areas where you feel this resistance, need some loving attention and balancing.
Finally, imagine colors when you hover your hand over your chakras. Imagine the chakras as bright and colorful spinning wheels of energy. If, as you imagine each chakra, the color seems more dull or even hard to imagine – or the energy isn’t spinning freely – it is a sign that the chakra is blocked.
Keep practicing these techniques until you become attuned to how your chakras normally feel, and then you’ll easily notice any changes (for better or for worse). Then you’ll know exactly which chakras need more attention!
