The 7 Chakras for Beginners
Chakras are energy centers located at various points in your body that allow you to live your life to its full expression and potential. The following information on chakras for beginners will help you get familiar with how important these energy centers are. The chakras are directly related to your body’s overall health, your emotional well-being and your mental abilities, and learning to keep them balanced is essential to your overall quality of life.
You can imagine each chakra as a rapidly spinning ‘wheel’ of energy. There are 7 chakras in the body, roughly along the spine from the base of the spine to the top of the head.

Stress, depression, and bodily injury or pain can cause one or more of your chakras to become clogged and out of balance, which will adversely affect the flow of energy. If energy cannot flow openly and freely through all of your chakras you will experience problems associated with that chakra.
Chakra meditation is used to help reestablish the balance of your chakras to restore the free flow of energy. Beginners who have not practiced any chakra meditation before can perform meditations to prepare themselves for it. Gemstones or crystals can be used during the meditation to correspond with and represent each chakra; however, the most powerful chakra-clearing and harmonizing technique is to use your imagination!
The colors associated with each chakra are important: colors, like everything else in the universe, have a unique energetic (vibrational) signature. This means that when you go about clearing blockages in certain chakras, you will want to keep their colors in mind (more on that in a moment).
Imagine the flow of energy like a river. When the river if free of obstacles, the water flows smoothly and steadily, nourishing life along the banks. Your organs and other bodily functions are nourished by this energy; and so are the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of yourself.
Now, if you were to start tossing rocks into the river – emotional distress, negative thoughts and stress, you will start creating disturbances in the flow. If enough rocks accumulate in certain areas, the flow of energy can be slowed drastically or even stopped altogether. That means ‘life upstream’ and ‘life downstream’ are negatively affected – some areas have too much energy, while others starve.
First, a brief description of each chakra:
How the 7 Chakras Relate to Your Life
Chakras are 'spinning wheels' of energy.
Root Chakra: the physical location of this chakra is at the base of the spine. It is associated with the color red and represents your foundation and your feeling of connection with the physical world. You have a blockage in this chakra if you experience recurring financial problems (in the modern age, money is a symbol of survival and security); you may feel tired and run down; you may feel stuck in a job you hate where you feel unfulfilled and inadequately rewarded; you may experience adrenal fatigue (from too much stress); eating disorders; and bone disorders.
Sacral Chakra: the second chakra is located along the spine in the lower abdomen, just below the navel. This orange-colored chakra represents our ability to feel connected with other people, to be accepting of others and open to new experiences. Your sacral chakra is blocked or weakened if you have any sexual problems – you don’t feel sexy or attractive; you feel undesirable; you have difficulty opening up in relationships; you have a low libido and repeatedly attract the wrong types of people.
Solar Plexus Chakra: the third chakra is yellow in color. It sits along the spine in the upper abdomen. It reflects your personal power. If you lack self-confidence and self-esteem; if you frequently feel embarrassed by what others think of you; if you feel like a victim; and if you suffer from stomach pains and stomach anxiety, your solar plexus chakra is blocked.
Heart Chakra: the fourth chakra is an emerald-green chakra located next to the physical heart. It is the center of your ability to love and be loved. Your heart chakra is blocked if you have trouble opening up to others; if you feel clingy and needy; if you experience heart problems, asthma or allergies; and if you feel unable to accept yourself.
Throat Chakra: the turquoise-colored fifth chakra is located in the throat. It represents your ability to communicate and express yourself. If you have problems being honest; if you feel you can’t speak up and voice your needs or opinions; if you suffer from sore throats, sinus problems or dental problems, your fifth chakra is blocked.
Third Eye Chakra: an indigo-colored chakra, the sixth chakra supports intuition and your life path (sense of purpose and direction). If you feel lost, wondering “Why am I here? Why was I even born?” and you can’t make decisions without second-guessing yourself; if have sinus troubles and frequent headaches, then your third eye chakra is blocked.
Crown Chakra: the seventh chakra is a deep purple. Located at the crown of your head, it supports your spirituality and unity with the Divine. On a physical level, it supports the nervous system and brain functions. If you feel lonely; insignificant; worthless; if you get headaches and experience neurological issues; your crown chakra is blocked.
Now that you know the function of each chakra and the difficulties you can encounter if that chakra is blocked, let’s move on to clearing the blockages and restoring harmony.
